Academic integrity and the ethics of research are covered in the first 3 chapters (7-9), on ethics of research and the reporting of research. Data analysis is covered extensively as the lab portion of the course includes an assessment of multiple analysis such as correlation. Other topics include, but are not limited to, meta-analysis, meta-analyses, randomized experiments, confidence intervals, causality, and statistical inference.

The course is tailored to enable the completion of a senior thesis. Students will complete a term-long research project and write a 40-page senior thesis, incorporating the research project. Students will work closely with their research advisor in a collaborative environment focused on scientific research. Students should plan to spend at least 4 hrs per week in research lab activities. Research project ideas are given to students as part of the course syllabus.

Competence in research. Students must demonstrate that they understand research concepts and processes and that they are able to conduct and troubleshoot research on their own. Students must demonstrate that they are able to apply the concepts taught in the course and show their ability to critically review current literature and their ability to assess the validity of conclusions reached by others. Students must be able to clearly communicate their research ideas and results in written form.
